The Kern Wheelmen, Inc. Bicycle Club is a group of some 150+ cyclists that live in and around Kern County California who enjoy bicycling as recreation, sport,
and a general mode of transportation.
As a Club, we seek to offer support to the cyclists of Kern County. This support is provided in many ways:
- We are proud supporters of the American Lung Association and have donated yearly to this and other worthy health and bicycle related causes.
- The Club hosts its annual Spooktacular Century each fall, attracting hundreds of riders seeking to challenge themselves on some of our
fantastic cycling routes
- We recently added the Alta Sierra Challenge to our annual ride calendar giving cyclists another chance to see more of our area riding.
- Wanna go fast?? We have that covered too, we recently hosted the Golden Empire Championships Road Race. 500+ riders braved the heat and were rewarded with a fantastic closed course. Is it really easier to climb in the other lane? Those 500 racers know!
- Speaking of fast, look for us again this November for our clycloross race!
- Wanna go slow?? Check out the slow spokes.
- Our monthly club meetings are usually highlighted by a speaker or clinic. Want to hear how hard RAAM is? We have the 2 and 4 man record holders here, bike
maintenance, health and nutrition, these are just some of the topics we cover.
- Look for our Poker / Smoker rides. Smoker for the racers, poker for the rest of the family with a bike path option for the kids.
- As a club we are represented by many types of riders and bikes. We are inclusive and strive to offer something for everyone regardless of how or what they ride. We work closely with the SSFTA, as most of us have mountain bikes, we have many tandem riders, a few
fixer uppers, and an recumbent or 2. So run-what-cha-bring'N,
come join us!
- Club membership receives access to our internal Internet
site, with a archive of newsletters and new one on their way listing ride schedules, race results, meeting and other cycling information that may not be
located else were.
